Donating to Daily Kos (five options)
We are grateful for your interest in making a financial contribution to Daily Kos.
We have five routes by which you can support the operation of the site and its related activism.
1) ActBlue (available only for U.S. citizens residing in the U.S.)
2) PayPal (available for anyone)
3) Via check mailed to us (available for anyone)
4) Site subscription, for self or as a gift (available for anyone)
5) Site merchandise
Please read on for details.
1) ActBlue
Please follow this link to contribute via ActBlue You should receive an email to confirm your contribution after making it. The email will be sent from ActBlue Receipts, though it will carry a donation number and it will name us as a recipient of your donation in the subject line and in the body of the message.
If you have ANY questions about your online contribution, we ask you to contact ActBlue directly. They have a Frequently Asked Questions page for Contributors, and they also can be emailed with specific questions. If you prefer to call them, their contact number is 617-517-7600, and their office hours are 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET M-F.
We find that ActBlue is very responsive to customer concerns. But if you don't get satisfaction there, please let us know right away.
Please note that people in SOME, not all, states MAY use PayPal as a method of payment within the ActBlue system. This is NOT the same as paying directly via PayPal, which is a relatively new payment option described below.
2) PayPal
We are pleased to announce that it is now possible to donate directly to Daily Kos (corporate name, Kos Media, LLC), via PayPal. You may access the PayPal donation route from the Donation section on our home page, between the top news stories and the Trending List, or via a donation appeal posted within staff stories. Both the Donation section and the staff story donation appeal now feature a PayPal button at the bottom.
Clicking that PayPal button will redirect you to a page that looks like this:
Important details to note:
- Contribution amounts are in US Dollars (USD). This makes it clear to international donors the currency that will be used in processing the donation.
- It is NOT necessary to have a PayPal account to donate. Acceptable payment methods include PayPal and also most major debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard®, American Express, Discover (not in CA), JCB, Diners Club, and EnRoute).
3) Via mailed check
If you prefer, you may also contribute using snail mail. Send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612. International donors, or US citizens living abroad are welcome to use this method, as ActBlue now only processes donations from US citizens residing here.
4) Site subscription
4) A fourth way to support the site is through purchasing a subscription, either for yourself or as a gift. NOTE: A site account MUST exist for a subscription to be associated with it—but one can be created as part of the subscription process.
Subscriptions enable the recipient to view the site ad-free for a year. To purchase for yourself, log in (or create an account), and visit https://www.dailykos.com/subscribe/
To purchase for another user, click on this related link, https://www.dailykos.com/subscribe/gift/, choose a time span of either six months or a year, and then type the recipient's email address. (In other words, you do not need to know whether your intended recipient has a site account. For this process to take place on the back end helps us protect user anonymity.)
You do not need to be logged in to send a gift. This is a standard credit card transaction and does not go through ActBlue. Our data shows that people who receive gifts participate at the site more, so it can be a terrific way to show your appreciation both for us and for a particular contributor.
For more detailed information, please consult our Site Subscriptions FAQ.
5) Site merchandise
Lastly, please feel free to check out our offerings at our "merch store," where you can find Daily Kos-branded t-shirts, mugs, hats, and more.
Thank you again for offering your financial support for the mission of Daily Kos.
Please note the statement at the bottom of the donation page, which also applies to any donation made to us: "Contributions or gifts to ActBlue are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes."
