Site personalization: How to change your avatar and cover image
Daily Kos site members have the option of customizing their user profile page with two images: a profile photo (avatar) and a cover image.
A default version of the user avatar appears in two locations: in the page header, on the right side, at the top of every story page, and on the user profile page.
The avatar image replaces the "LOGIN" link in the site header, so it confirms the login state for a user. Whether default or custom, the avatar is also visible on every member's user profile page and in association with every comment that a site member makes. A quick skim of any story page with comments will demonstrate that site members often take some time and care to choose an avatar image that has special meaning for them.
If you wish to add or edit an avatar/profile photo, login and go to your user profile by clicking on the header avatar or going directly to https://www.dailykos.com/user/[your-user-name]. Click the Edit Profile button in the left sidebar and then and click the CHANGE PHOTO button to open the Change Profile Photo page.
There are three ways to select an image for use as your Profile photo (user avatar). You can drag and drop an image file into the dotted box, you can click the SELECT YOUR FILE button to open your device Finder and navigate to an image file, or you can Take Photo with your device's camera.
Selecting an image will activate the Change Profile Photo page.
On the Change Profile Photo page, move and/or drag the box to select the extent of the image to use, which will be previewed on the right, then click the SAVE button to confirm your selection.
- Change Cover Image
You can further personalize your Profile page by changing the Cover Image (the default Cover Image is the banner image of multi-colored heads). If you wish to change the Cover Image, open the Edit Profile page (see above) and click the CHANGE COVER IMAGE button to open the Change Cover Image page.
Please note the image size and dimension requirements before selecting an image: For better results, make sure to upload an image that is larger than 1186px wide, and 225px tall.
You can drag and drop an image file into the dotted box, or you can click the SELECT YOUR FILE button to open you device Finder and navigate to an image file. Selecting the image will save your selection and update your Cover Image.
