Create a Daily Kos User Account (v6)

It is easy and free to create a Daily Kos site user account. With a site user account you will be able to participate in the Daily Kos community experience: posting comments, posting stories, recommending comments and stories, and joining community Groups.

This resource will document the steps to create a new Daily Kos site user account.

Step One:

To start the process of creating a site account, click the SIGN UP button located at the right side of the top navigation bar on Daily Kos site pages.

Note:

It is also possible for individuals without an existing site account to get to the Create an Account page below from 1) the WRITE STORY button in the top navigation bar or 2) by typing a comment and clicking POST in the Comment Editor at the top of any comment section; those two actions initiate the Sign In screen, at the bottom of which is a Create a free account link, which directs to the Create an Account page.

Step Two:

Clicking the SIGN UP button will open the Create an Account page. Enter a preferred username, an active valid email address of record, a password (twice, for security matching confirmation), and a Zip Code.

Notes:

• Usernames at account registration may not contain spaces, tabs, line breaks, or special characters; you can edit your Display Name after logging into your new account
• International users without a US Zip Code may leave that field blank
• If your email address is already associated to a site user account, you will return an error message; contact the Help Desk to regain access to your existing account

Fill out all required fields, check the box regarding our Terms of Service, and click the CONTINUE button. You will then see this message:

Step Three:

Very shortly you will receive an email from donotreply@dailykos.com at the email address of record entered above.

Note:

If you do not see this email in your Inbox within a few minutes, please check other folders in your email (Spam, Social, Promotions, etc.) in case your email provider misdirected our email; if no email arrives to any folder, please contact the Help Desk for assistance activating your account

Click the link within the email to open the Activate Your Account page.

Step Four:

The activation code included in the email (above) should automatically display in the Activation Key field of the Activate Your Account page. If the field is empty, copy and paste the Activation Key from the email.

Click the ACTIVATE button to complete the account activation process, and you will then be directed to this confirmation page.

You will then also receive two emails from Daily Kos at your email address of record. The first is a confirmation of the successful activation of your user account. The second is a "Welcome" message.

Once you have successfully registered and activated your account, you can log in and join the fun. Welcome aboard!
