User Account Profile (v6)
Daily Kos site user accounts have a Profile page on which a user can customize preferences for account display, manage preferences for email settings, view engagement information, and access messages and notifications.
When logged into your site user account, you can access your Profile page by clicking the circular avatar icon on the right side of the top navigation bar. For a new account, that icon will display an orange and white silhouette. If you choose to set a custom avatar (described below) that icon will display your custom avatar.
- ACCOUNT PROFILE PAGE, OVERVIEW
The account Profile page displays basic information about a site account and the Log Out button (left sidebar), and a series of eight Tabs for displaying engagement information and preference settings.

Your Profile page contains eight Tabs.
Stories Tab - a list display of your stories including published stories, draft stories, and scheduled stories; only published stories are counted in the circular blue story count at the top of the Tab; listed draft stories and scheduled stories are only visible to you; the Edit Story link below each story in the Tab will open the Story Editor
Recommends Tab - a list display of stories you have recommended
Following Tab - a list display of users, groups, and content topics you are following
Followers Tab - a list display of users following you
Groups Tab - a list display of community Groups you have joined (Memberships) and to which you have been invited (Invitations)
Messages Tab - peer-to-peer direct messaging features (Inbox, new message composition)
Notifications Tab - a list of notifications for new peer-to-peer messages and community Group invitations and invitation request
Settings Tab - settings and preferences for your Daily Kos site user account (see detailed discussion below)

- Account Profile Page, Edit Profile
Clicking the Edit Profile button in the left sidebar of your Profile page opens the Edit Profile page, where you can add or replace your Profile photo (user avatar), add or replace your cover image, edit your account display name, and edit your Zip Code display preference.
If you wish, you can edit the display name of your user account. The display name is the name displayed with your comments and in the byline of stories you author. Your account username (the username selected at account registration) is a permanent database record. Be sure to click the SAVE CHANGES button to confirm any edit.
If you wish, you can also edit your Zip Code and change the display preferences for your Zip Code (Everyone, Only Me, All Members). Be sure to click the SAVE CHANGES button to confirm any edit.
- Change Profile Photo (user avatar)
If you wish to add or edit a Profile photo (user avatar), open the Edit Profile page (see above) and click the CHANGE PHOTO button to open the Change Profile Photo page.
There are three ways to select an image for use as your Profile photo (user avatar). You can drag and drop an image file into the dotted box, you can click the SELECT YOUR FILE button to open your device Finder and navigate to an image file, or you can Take Photo with your device's camera.
Selecting an image will activate the Change Profile Photo page.
On the Change Profile Photo page, move and/or drag the box to select the extent of the image to use, which will be previewed on the right, then click the SAVE button to confirm your selection.
- Change Cover Image
You can further personalize your Profile page by changing the Cover Image (the default Cover Image is the horizontal image of multi-colored silhouettes). If you wish to change the Cover Image, open the Edit Profile page (see above) and click the CHANGE COVER IMAGE button to open the Change Cover Image page.
Please note the image size and dimension requirements before selecting an image: For better results, make sure to upload an image that is larger than 1186px wide, and 225px tall.
You can drag and drop an image file into the dotted box, or you can click the SELECT YOUR FILE button to open you device Finder and navigate to an image file. Selecting the image will save your selection and update your Cover Image.
- Account Profile Page, Settings Tab
The Settings Tab of your account Profile page has three Tabs: General, Email, and Delete Account.
General Tab - management of your password and email address of record
Email Tab - email notification preferences for peer-to-peer messages and community Group membership notifications
Delete Account Tab - for deleting your Daily Kos site user account; account deletion will delete your account login credentials, your Profile page, and any story content (published, draft, scheduled); account deletion requires both checking the box for "I understand the consequences" and also then clicking the DELETE ACCOUNT button.
