Try quitting your browser and restarting. It may be as simple as your browser running low on memory. Try holding "shift" while reloading the home page, and make sure the whole page load completes before you take any other actions. Restarting your whole computer is a good idea, too, but IME is rarely necessary, and of course it's more trouble.
If that doesn't seem to do the trick, try clearing your cache and cookies for the site. Sometimes stale data can interfere with site loading too.
Have you installed any plugins recently? If you're not running an older Internet Explorer, most of the time the issue is a new plugin or security/privacy setting.

If you are running Internet Explorer, see if you've gotten yourself into compatibility mode.
In IE8 * under "Tools" go to "Compatibility View Settings"
Remove daily kos from "Compatibilty View"
Regarding the three check boxes at the bottom of the "Compatibility View Settings" dialog box:
Check the box "Included updated websites from Microsoft"
Check the box "Display Intranet sites in Compatibility View"
DO NOT Check the box "Display all websites in Compatibility View"`
If you are running Internet Explorer 7, this is pretty much the end of the line for you on that browser. IE7 is very old and you will be much happier when you are using another browser. If you must keep IE7 for a particular legacy application, consider installing a second browser, like Firefox, for Daily Kos and your other ordinary surfing needs. The internet will suddenly be a lot prettier and easier to use.
Try installing or using a second browser other than your main one if you're confused about how it's looking for you versus everyone else, or if you're in a hurry to make things work right now.
Plugins known to cause problems include: NoScript, AdBlock, and Scorpion Adware. Note that when whitelisting domains that we use the hosted jQuery libraries at googleapis.com.
