Garbage characters in tweets

Many tweets that include punctuation have garbage in place of smart quotes. Is there no way to fix this, or is this a twitter problem beyond Daily Kos's ability to repair?

Usually this is a problem either because the specific tweet has been deleted and there is no longer a correct link, or the diary was large and only a partial page load occurred. My experience as a user says the first is more likely, so try clicking through on the link first to check the status of the tweet. If it's still available, try reloading the page.

    Hello, and thanks for asking.

It's a little difficult to say for sure without a screenshot of what you see displayed, but I suspect that what you are getting in the tweets are replacements for quotation marks and other special characters.

If that's the case, then this is something your browser is doing, not something that we here can control. If you investigate your browser settings--including any extensions you have--you might be able to remedy this issue with a different option. To check to see if an extension you have is creating the interference, please open a private/incognito window and view the post in question. Doing so disables most (though not all) of the extensions you may have installed. If the embedded tweets display well in this mode, then you have a strong indication that an extension is the culprit. By process of elimination you should be able to narrow the possibilities; starting with adblockers is usually advisable.

Thanks again for asking, and thanks for your support of the site.
