Why am I banned? Why am I not able to contact anyone to ask why I'm not banned? Why is this just suddenly dropped on me at out of nowhere with no warning or explanation? What is this, a National Security Letter?

According to kos you were autobanned which is patently ridiculous.

Troubadour? (1+ / 0-) I didn't ban... Just looked it up. That user was autobanned. by kos on Thu May 17, 2012 at 02:55:25 PM EDT

I'm sure that another explanation is needed given the lack of hidden comments recently.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell's going on, and Kos says he doesn't see why it happened either. I'm deliberately trying not to be suspicious given the content of my work that appears to have triggered it. After all, shit does just plain happen.

Got no other choice, but it's annoying. I can't even access the solar system diary draft I was working on.

This looks like a mistake and anger is only likely to compound the issue.

I just saw this reply in my junk mail filter.  I don't know if the current problem is related to the autoban which was seemingly fixed, but it seems like it could be even though the system lists me as TU.  It seems to accept my logins but then won't let me do anything - as soon as I click on "Discuss" or any other user-related function, it returns to the homepage with "Log In" in the menu as if I hadn't just logged in.  Thanks.

Your permissions all look fine. Are you still having a problem? That kind of behavior suggests that a cookie is not being set properly.

BTW: I'm sorry you didn't get a prompt reply on Thursday - I had the day off. Yay me, but inconvenient for you. Was glad to see your Mars diary.

I thought it might be a cookie issue, but I have no idea what to do about it.  Firefox doesn't seem to be having problems with any other site's login, and there are several cookies from Daily Kos listed so it's apparently accepting some of them.  I've tried deleting all cookies and history and then logging in again, but the same thing happens - it takes the info and then just repeats the same front page without logging in, or else shows me logged in but logs out as soon as I try to do anything.

BTW, I tried posting this reply directly into the helpdesk discussion and got an error message: "

We're sorry, but something went wrong
We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly."

IE appears to log in successfully.  I've looked at all the menus and options available in Firefox and don't see anything selected or deselected that would be causing it to reject a Daily Kos login, because it accepts other cookies from Daily Kos.  For now I can use IE, but I'd rather resolve the problem than just avoid it.  Thanks.

I'm going to go and clear all your sessions out of the database. After that, could you make sure your cache is clear (hey, you never know) and make sure any cookies from any dailykos.com host (not just www) are cleared, then try logging in?

    OK, I'll try that.

Curious. I see a couple of your sessions in the DB. Could you tell me what the value of "dk4_session" in your .dailykos.com cookie is? I've gone and marked this conversation as private.

Hmm, hopefully my making it private didn't hide the discussion from you, Troubadour. Could you get that information I asked for above and email it to me at jeremy -at- dailykos.com?

I've been signing in with IE, so there have been sessions.  But this is the value of the cookie on Firefox:

Hmm, the session's in the db as it should be (and one other one too). I have another question, by the way: what extensions do you have installed on Firefox? I'm also looking at why there've been two people in the last few days getting smacked down for starting a zillion drafts in the space of a few minutes, when this had hardly ever come up before.

There are only three extensions, all disabled: Norton toolbar, Norton Vulnerability Protection, and Realplayer browser record plugin.

Just to be clear, the fact that I can log in with IE does not mean I want this subject dropped.  I hate IE.  It's constantly crashing.  I want to be able to use Firefox to access Daily Kos, and I don't know why it won't log in.
