Hello, and thanks for asking.
Once a user posts a comment or a story on the site, we don't permit name changes. We also do not delete accounts. But you are also not obligated to continue to use the account. Simply continue to let it go dormant.

It's really not important. I didn't realize that my "nickname" would be
listed with my posts, and I thought of a better, less identifiable, one to
use. I'll just continue reading without posting. Thank you.

I'm sorry to have omitted adding this information; I responded too narrowly to your question. It is perfectly acceptable for a user in good standing to let an initial account go dormant--and to create a new one. That option is available to you, too, if you wish.

You're welcome. The only constraint we have is that users are not allowed to have more than one active account. Please see the site's Rules of the Road if you'd like more information.
