I have written here intermittently for quite a few years, and that never happened to me until I wrote a comment on a story by Matt Sumner titled, uh, "America is about to learn a godawful lesson... " having to do with the novel coronavirus.

Sometimes, answers are simple. Comments are open for 10 days after publication, and this diary was published on 2/27. Comment close is automatic. If you particularly wanted to reply to a single comment, you can still send a kosmail to the original commenter, but be sure to include a link to the original, because there's been a lot of water under that bridge.

    Hello, and thanks for asking.
The answer that siab gave was almost correct: stories close for any new comments after nine days, not ten. That clock is based on the date of story publication, not on the date of the latest comment--so it's entirely possible for someone to arrive late to a story and post a comment just under the wire.
