How to make links that appear as "orange words" in diary text?

Everything I have tried looks like regular "links".

You can type the HTML markup as follows copying and pasting the url from the address bar of your browser as shown including the quotation marks. Then type the words you want to be the orange link words as shown with the brackets, a, etc:

    <a href="http://helpdesk.dailykos.com/discussions"> Help Desk Discussions</a>

Or, at the bottom of the Intro box and Extended Optional box where you type in your diary, there are formatting buttons. Click "Link." That will open two boxes, one where you put the url and one where you put the words you want to be the orange text.

Delete the existing http// that is in the first box called "url." Then copy and paste the complete url from your browser address bar which includes http.

In our example, you would put
    http://helpdesk.dailykos.com/discussions
    in the first box.

The 2nd box is called "label" and you put the words you want in there.
In our example, you would put Help Desk Discussion in there.

Then - important - click the "Add" button. That will put it in your diary.

Both ways should end up looking like this:

    Help Desk Discussions

When you are creating the diary, the links will look like the regular links as in the first two examples. When you "save and preview" the diary, that is when you will see how the orange words text will look when published.

    Hello,
Mine are coming out brown and then sometimes orange which is fine, I just
would like to know what I am doing.

Sounds like you got it. :) The brown color is for visited links. Links you haven't gone to before will be orange. I forgot about that. :) (Now that I think about it a little more, it seems like all your links should be brown since you have probably gone to each page.)

However, while some may be brown to you, they won't to your readers unless your readers have already been to that linked page as well. I often see diaries where the links are brown as I've already been to those pages, or sometimes they'll have a mix.

You can check this out by going to a diary on the front page and clicking to open one of the orange links in the diary. Then reload the front page, and that same link should now be brown.

Oh, very good, thanks. I noticed a page I was on earlier had a brown and an
orange so I thought it was something I had done.
Now, I see what you mean and chance is I had already opened the link. I
will do the test and confirm. Yeah, I have it figured out pretty well and
thanks again. I have to be prudent but at least I can back up an argument
    or include a song.

I am curious about something else though. I know I visited DKos long before
the 2008 election, at least I remember the roll up to the election here.
But my UID shows 2009. I am wondering if I was just lurking all that time
and not commenting? I remember it was a big deal choosing a user name etc.
I have done "lost user id" associated with both of my email address and
thousandwatts is my only user id.
Just wondering, maybe I was just lurking?

This is really a question for elfling to say definitively.

But, I'd say I've never heard of a date being incorrect. You can go to your first comments, click through 3 or 4 pages on your comments page, and see your first ones were the day after your sign up date, so that matches. I haven't heard of any lost comments either.

    Safe bet you lurked.
