Timeout when trying to publish a diary

Wrote my first (very short) diary this week. I've tried several times, over a couple of different days, to "Publish Now", but every time, the screen thinks about it for a few seconds, then comes back and says "timeout."

    Hello, and thanks for venturing into new territory. It's unfortunate that you've encountered roadblocks along the way. Apologies!

    I have a couple of suggestions. First, are you sure that you have included at least one Tag on your story? If you haven't, you can't publish (though indeed the error message you should get should also be somewhat different than what you are seeing).

    Just in case a Tag--missing, or misformed--is at the base of your problem, here are some tips:

    A Tag has the same general appearance as a Twitter hashtag does. Our software automatically applies the #, so you don't need to do so. In fact, if you DO include the #, your Tag will not be accepted. Tags must include ONLY letters and numbers, plus these three special characters: hyphen, ampersand, and period--which cannot come at the end of the Tag. Letters may be upper or lower case; they are treated the same regardless. Tags may not have spaces.
    To get a Tag to be saved, click Enter when you have finished, or the comma key. Either one will save a Tag and present it directly underneath the Tag text window (with an x on it in case you want to delete one).

    If you HAVE had well-formed Tags on your draft, then you might be encountering a different problem related to a posting throttle. Once you have your draft ready to go, then try this. Save your draft and close that window. Then go to your draft queue (which you can reach via your pull-down menu, attached to your username at the top right corner). From that display you can choose either Schedule Later or Publish Now, both of which are fairly straightforward.
