Daily KOS Recommended email with links identified as being dangerous

I received an email this afternoon from Daily KOS Recommended and this headline: • In fit of rage, Trump cancels Pelosi trip to Afghanistan, endangering her and national security

I did not check all the links, but at least the first three took me to websites that were blocked due to having been identified as containing malicious spyware.

Is this a mistake or is this email bogus?

Hello, and thanks for asking about this issue.

We have received only one other such report, and at the moment we're not quite sure what might be causing the alert. Our emails are fine, and our links are secure, heading right back to the website.

If you're interested in doing some troubleshooting with us, we could attempt a more complete diagnosis. We'd want to know, to start, what operating system and browser you're using; whether you have any similar issues with links from other emails (if you're on other lists like ours); and whether you can provide us with some screenshots of the error messages you're getting.

Thanks for the alert, in any case. We'll await your reply.

Same thing happened to me this morning (1/20/2019) I use internet explorer, but it was a Microsoft warning telling me that it was a phishing email to collect info. 

Here is a screenshot. I am using Windows 10 and their Edge browser. I have not had this problem with links on any other emails (including others from Daily KOS).

I just deleted roughly 40 e-mails "recommended" by Kos and came here to see what's up. Didn't open any.

I am having the same problem, going on for at least 5 days. I am on google chrome, windows 10. My message says this:

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from u1584542.ct.sendgrid.net (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

I have been getting the same errors on both my phone (Android) and my Windows 10 desktop for over a week. There is something broken with the certificates at whoever sengrid.net is.

I have the same issue. This has been happening for about a week now. No change in OS or browser (win 10, Edge). If I try to go to the article anyway, I get a 404 not found. I try to link to any of the dailykos articles and I get the following message:

    This site is not secure

This might mean that someone’s trying to fool you or steal any info you send to the server. You should close this site immediately.

    Go to your Start page
The hostname in the website’s security certificate differs from the website you are trying to visit.
Go on to the webpage (Not recommended)

Thanks for asking. Sorry you're encountering this difficulty.

From what we can tell, it is a specific instance of a general problem. Sometimes the link in the email either fails to load completely (to a story or to a petition) and sometimes the link displays badly and will not work. Occasionally this failure is accompanied by an error message.

In your case, it seems to arise from how your email host, your network, and/or your computer handle the underlying information in our links. Adjusting firewall settings at one or more of those checkpoints might be necessary. Depending on your security protections, it might suffice if you permit link-forwarding. Or it might be necessary to go one level up and permit links from sendgrid.net At the moment, we can't be any more exact than this in describing the URLs (the links to the online stories).

We have been in contact with our own emailer, Action Network, to confirm that all is well, and from all we know, it is. We're continuing to monitor the situation.

If the links within your emails are displaying properly, in most cases what you'll see are the story titles (and it's usually quite obvious what are not). So if you go directly to dailykos.com with a keyword from a headline, you'll be able to find it. The Search window is toward the top right corner of the front page and any story page. Put the keyword or phrase in the Search window, click the spyglass icon, and you'll see a list of titles containing it. If it's distinctive enough, it'll be the only possibility returned.

Thanks for your interest in keeping up-to-date with the latest political developments and the activism we sorely need to protect our country.

What's odd is that this has NEVER happened before (for any links), and starting about a week ago it is happening for all daily kos links only. As far as I know, no intentional changes to security or email. 

It is disconcerting, to be sure, but it's also unlikely that your security agents would have apprised you of any changes they have made. We're still keeping an eye out.

It does appear to be my ISP (Xfinity/Comcast). If I am connected via WiFi on my phone, it happens. But if I connect on my phone using the phone’s data connection, it does not. Also it happens on my desktop.

Every time I try to access a link in the email, I get a 404 error. I've tried it from 2 separate devices, same issue.

The problem is with the “protected browsing” feature of Xfinity/Comcast. I disabled it and the problem went away.

  16. 14 Posted by JOHN/ LYNNETTE ... on 05 Apr, 2019 03:28 PM

I also turned off Xfinity protected browsing, and that solved the problem. I hope turning it off doesn't create more problems than it solved. It only seemed to impact Daily Kos links.
