Most of the jpegs on just this site seem to be broken in the past day and a half.

Thanks elfling for the work you're doing under the hood. I appreciate the explanation, and it's nice to have the grace period to work out a more permanent solution. From here, the results of your fix have been -

On the iMac: the icons and thumbnails have reappeared throughout the site, including at the image library, so now at least I can get photos that way. I'm still unable to import photobucket images at all on the desktop.
On the ipad: I can import photobucket images after clicking ok on the window that pops up saying the adjustment will be added to the code.
Net effect for me: Composition on the ipad is still very cumbersome, with some things impossible, so what I'm doing now is loading images into a draft on the ipad and then doing most of the diary composition on the imac.

I hear you about photobucket having a problem with secure code. If they haven't upgraded by next year to a form that will load onto DK, I guess I'll have to find another photo host.

....unless DK improves the quality of images out of the image library. Speaking of which, I have a question. The title photo, which MUST come from the IL, is very good quality, in size and resolution. Is there a way to make photos in the body of the diary like that? If so, I wouldn't need to use an external photo host.

Thanks again for your understanding for those of us who have older machines, and giving us space to find a solution to modernize. I am starting to save for that now.

No worries! We just wanted to know how things were going. The fishing we were doing was for information, not compliments. :)

Sounds like at least for the two of you they're better, though not completely. We might have more to suggest, though as for the addition of hours to the day things aren't looking too promising.

I'm still having trouble with mine.
FWIW I'm running a two year old laptop with Chrome. I store my pics in

Other people have said they're not having probs, so ??

Before the switch, neither did I.

Thanks for all your hard work; I grumble, but I do appreciate it!

If the DK image library improved the quality of how they display our images, ie. more like how our pix show up imported as code from photobucket, would you start storing your pics in the IL? I mean for the size and quality of the TITLE image. The images that display in the body of diary from the IL are small and fuzzy....that's the problem.

I'm still unable to import photobucket using my imac/safari, so you're not alone with your problem.

Last Friday and again on Monday, I used the IL for my Pootie Diaries. The
main problem with the IL is that there is no way to sort pics, aside from
the tags. Do you know how many pootie tags are out there?? lol lol

The other issue is that all my pics are either on my hard drive or in Photo
Bucket...which means I have to download from PB to my h/d, upload to
IL...and that's if I want to use pics I already have. If I go for new ones
that I want to edit or caption...the time gets longer.

I really thought that by now I'd be able to use my PB pics again. The
    cockeyed optimist, that's me. :-)

Look at it this least we don't have to do all our own coding,
    etc. 

OK, since you asked. I'll add that my issue with not being able to embed any images from photobucket in comments on a computer running windows 7 and internet explorer 11 has not changed. When I try to put an image in nothing happens. No pop up message about adding the "s", nothing. I tried turning off the pop up blocker and that didn't change anything. I will paste an example below of what I get from the photobucket site copied to my clipboard in the I.E. browser.

I'll also attach a jpeg file of the bobcat who shared some time with me today for your viewing pleasure. This is the photo that was uploaded to photobucket and the embed code above is for.

Just alerting everyone to this ahem, glorious, update from photobucket...

Basically they are going to disallow hotlinking images except for paid accounts.

This discussion is "closed" ie I can't reply on the help thread so I'm replying this way.

Thanks for posting that news link, some folks may not have heard about photobucket's new policy yet. I learned about it from a kossack a couple of days ago.

Photobucket users are screwed, that is clear. What it means for those of us who used PB links is that all the images will disappear; for some of us that's hundreds of diaries.

The reason I went to PB is because the switch to DK5 meant image library images became small and fuzzy. I'd love to use the image library but for diaries featuring photos, it's like using thumbnails, defeats the purpose.

Is there any chance you'll be improving the quality of IL images? If the images in the body of the diary were like that of the title image, the whole problem would be solved and no one would have to use an external image host. Please consider improving the IL images!

Yes, thank you, OceanDiver, you did succeed in reopening the thread.
I hope that you can manage to rehost your own photos on a more accommodating platform. That move by PB is truly obnoxious. It will also be a serious loss to the community of readers here if all those glorious photos from you and others disappear.
There's been talk for a while of making the lightbox mode available. This would seem to make that more urgent.

For the last few weeks, most of my PB pics have disappeared into the
ether. Suddenly, after I read this about PB latest boneheaded move,
poof!! They're all back....just in time to be useless.

I've done almost 300 diaries and over 55K comments...imagine how many pics
I've used!! I'm furious with PB and very grateful to elfling for letting
    us know what's the up.

At least I have time to move all my pics onto another drive....and figure
out what the heck "lightbox" is.

PB won't be getting more money from me. I'll use it in one of the
Community Fundraisers here at DK...or to support one of the candidates
    running in '18.

This last paininnabutt from PB has me truly ticked off...but thanks to
everyone who tried to help get it sorted. Any ideas for another site where
we can edit and caption pics?? The Pootie Peeps will thank you!

Marti I've been asking folks in the nature communities what they use and two sites have good reviews from them: Flickr and SmugMug. Flickr is free, owned by Yahoo. SmugMug is a small company, charges a fee. But I think this experience with PB is a warning about depending on private image hosting sites - they can go belly up at any time. Which is what I expect will happen to PB soon, this extortion tactic being a desperate last attempt to stay alfloat. A lot of angry users out there, some even lawyering up according to rumor. Unlike you and me, many folks used PB for their businesses, like selling at amazon and ebay.
The Lightbox feature elfling describes was an option in the DK4 image library, choices being left, center, right, lightbox. What lightbox does is make an image BIG, with very sharp resolution. Kind of like what we see in the title images currently. I don't know about you, but I have only been using PB to link images into DK diaries. If the tech folks can solve the DK5 image quality issue, we'd be home free (although old diaries will be image-less).

LET ME SECOND THIS ENTHUSIASTICALLY! I know Jason L (iteration?) said the
more people who clamored for the Lightbox photo option the sooner it might
happen. But if the images in the body of the text could have the same
quality as the lead image, that would satisfy me.

I think I might give Flickr a shot, and hope for the best. Who knew this
    would be such an issue??
Thanks for the info, and fingers crossed for all of us. And a mighty Irish
curse on them what deserves it! ;-)

Flickr is pretty good from all accounts; a number of high-volume image posters use it.

I tend to think we're a ways away from Lightbox mode being available, but it is on the to-do list, FWIW.
